Specially developed for the transport of 20-foot tank containers and with ADR equipment, the SDS 380 three-axle semi-trailer has an overall length of just 7,690 millimetres. The semi-trailer offers an excellent payload/unladen weight ratio: with an unladen weight of only around 3,300 kilos, the payload is 34,700 kilos. Of course, swap bodies measuring 7.15 / 7.45 and 7.82 metres can also be loaded.
The trailer rolls on BPW disc brake axles with lightweight aluminium rims. Every axle is measured and precisely set using lasers at the factory, thus reducing wear on tyres and ensuring lower fuel consumption. The first axle is designed as an automatic lift axle, including forced lowering and approach aid: If the towing vehicle has little traction, the first axle can be raised even under load so that more load acts on the drive axle; from a speed of 25 km/h, the axle is lowered again automatically. The axle load detection via the EBS Canbus signal ensures safety, as does the tyre pressure monitoring system with display in the cab. A slightly offset wheelbase allows a total train weight of 44 tonnes – important for combined transport.
The SDS 380 semi-trailer is ADR-certified for the transport of certain dangerous goods, thanks in part to the 6-kg powder fire extinguisher and a stainless steel earthing lug on the frame. A stainless steel drip tray with drain pipe and stopcock keeps the environment clean; the two long, side hose trays with lockable lids can each hold two hose pipes. There are steps on the right and left of the underride guard, with an additional step plate on the right for safe standing.
The complete lighting system, including rear, side marker, tracking and position lights, is LED; the amber side lights are coupled with the indicators. Two LED working lights at the rear of the vehicle ensure safety while manoeuvring.
