For years now, Fliegl has been producing all common types of long trucks and combines its products in the long trains in a particularly sustainable way. One train concept of the Fliegl long truck fleet is the Fliegl Road Train, consisting of trucks (two- or three-axle motor wagons) with fixed or interchangeable body, dolly axle and semi-trailer. It falls into category 3 of long trucks with a maximum overall length of 25.25 m. The heart of the combination is the Fliegl Dolly CLG.
At only 1300 kg, it is about 50% lighter than other dollies on the market. Designed to be flat and compact - with the CLG steering dolly, Fliegl creates a quantum leap in long truck transport. 920 - 950 mm fifth wheel height stands for itself and enables compliance with the legal 4-meter height limit.
A rigid, under-coupled drawbar provides the connection to the truck. The drawbar and dolly are combined via another conventional coupling, and a stable slewing ring prevents the trailer from rocking. The CLG runs exactly on the radius of the truck's front axle.
The technology of the CLG is as simple as it is effective: purely mechanical, without sensitive, failure-prone hydraulics, electronics and steering axles, because mechanics are logical. Mechanics are reliable. Mechanics are sustainable.
Several CLG dollies are in use in the fleet of Alfred Schuon GmbH from Haiterbach (Calw district). The leading freight forwarding and logistics company - specializing in jumbo transports, system transports, and individual logistics concepts - started with Fliegl Road Trains in the field trial of long trucks. Since then, the long trains have become indispensable in practical use. One of the CLG dollies, for example, has now been running without failures since 2017 and now has well over one million running kilometers. The data was just read out during the service check in Triptis.
Schuon's reasons for opting for the long truck variant with motor vehicle, dolly and trailer lie in the company philosophy and the area of operation. The vehicles also operate in southern Germany, where winter road conditions can also prevail. The dolly gives the train more driving stability and traction, because safety is always the top priority. Fliegl's clever, long trains were the first in the Schuon fleet of Fliegl vehicles. Since time immemorial, they have been transporting automotive parts from production plants to the assembly site.
