Made to measure ex factory

Heinz Schröer Transporte GmbH from Hünxe ordered eight new curtain semi-trailers with coil troughs from Fliegl. The trailers impress with their low weight and special equipment.

Heinz Schröer Transporte GmbH from Hünxe ordered the first ten curtainsider semitrailers as early as 2019. "The decisive factor was the low empty weight on the one hand, and the equipment tailored to our needs on the other," reports Managing Director Andre Schröer. According to Schröer, the Greenlight trailers from Fliegl weigh around 500 kilograms less than comparable vehicles from other manufacturers. With a mileage of about 100,000 kilometers per year and a holding period of 12 to 14 years, this results in a significant increase in efficiency for the freight forwarder.

After Schröer has now tested his first Fliegl trailers in the fleet for three years, he is convinced of the quality - and recently ordered eight more curtainsiders of the type SDS 390 RoadRunner Greenlight Coil. "In addition to the weight, another reason was that other manufacturers did not respond to our requirements," says the boss. Fliegl was different: Together with Helmut Fliegl and an engineer, Schröer and his workshop foreman Overkämping sat down at a table to adapt the equipment to the intended use. For example, Schröer occasionally has to transport smaller coils in addition to the standard coils - but the standard trough arrangement on the loading area does not fit for them. "We had this changed and can now drive the amount of otherwise two tours with only one trailer," Schröer is pleased to say. Fliegl placed the coil pockets and supports exactly as requested by the customer ex works. And it also gratefully accepts suggestions for improvement: for example, according to Andre Schröer's suggestion, the trough covers were made more stable and the handling of the front tarpaulin bar was improved.

Load securing is the be-all and end-all, which is why the trailer offers various lashing options: 18 lashing eyes, each with a tensile force of 5 tons, are embedded in the area of the coil trough; 16 Vario-Lash lashing rings are also on board; they can be hooked into the load-lock profile, i.e. the slightly slanted outer frame. The 30 millimeter thick floor is suitable for a forklift axle load of up to 5600 kilograms; in the rear area, Schröer had a steel/checker plate covering applied over a length of 30 centimeters.

Thanks to the slightly offset axle spacing, the trailer may have a gross train weight of 44 tons in combined transport. The RoadRunner runs on SAF axles, the last of which is self-steering and has an automatic reverse lock. All axles installed at Fliegl are measured by laser and precisely adjusted, which ensures low tire wear and low consumption.

In addition to economy, Andre Schröer also attaches importance to appearance: The boss gives the Alcoa aluminum rims chrome caps for the wheel studs, and the wheel hubs are painted in the same shade of red as the wheels.

The wheel hubs are painted red in the same color as the side collision protection. The eye travels with the car, and of course you want to make a good impression on the customer.

This is also achieved by fast loading and unloading. Thanks to Fliegl's lightning roof, the roof can be opened quickly, and thanks to the robust roof non-elastic, in which the roof bar does not bend, side loading is possible even with high goods without bumping into them. The roof tarpaulin is fitted with scuff protection on the crossbar, and the side sliding tarpaulin offers security against cargo theft thanks to close-mesh cut protection.

Ten trailers from another manufacturer are sorted out by Schröer, and a total of 18 trailers from Fliegl are now part of the fleet. The vehicles are mainly used in Germany, but also for international transports to France, Spain or the Benelux countries.
