Long truck from Fliegl: sustainability that pays off

There are several arguments for the use of long trucks. They are convincing and no longer a secret:

  • Two long truck trips replace three trips with conventional trucks
  • enormous efficiency gains and fuel savings
  • no increased maintenance costs for the infrastructure
  • no shifting effects from rail to road

For decades, Fliegl has been building all three long truck types and is the only manufacturer to also have other vehicle types in its portfolio: The Fliegl Swap Runner (type 1) and the Fliegl Swap Train (type 3). The special designs for less empty weight, reduced wear, lower diesel consumption and significantly lower CO2 emissions meet here with unique innovations and the use of Lang LKW in the transport business of swap bodies.

The Fliegl Swap Runner - The solution for distribution transport

The 14.98m long chassis can be used universally and was specially designed for the transport of swap bodies and semitrailers. This kills two birds with one stone and transports two swap bodies during only one trip. Downtimes are reduced and the extremely high payload advantage (unladen weight from 4500 kg) is already noticeable from the first day of operation. The Fliegl Swap Runner is characterized by best driving and maneuvering characteristics as very driver-friendly. Its narrow underride and side collision protection for easy driving underneath and problem- and resistance-free bridging prove its easy handling. All of this benefits drivers. After all, truck drivers are rare, and truck drivers who prefer to drive articulated trucks instead of semitrailers even more so.

The Swap Runner from Triptis is based on a very long experience in chassis construction and is multifunctional. With the Swap Runner, Fliegl has a two-axle chassis specialized in the transport of two BDF swap bodies a' 7.45 m in the range of its long trucks. Even in its basic configuration, the Swap Runner is equipped with everything that supports the driver in his daily work and provides the contractor with real utility value from day one.

It weighs only 4,500 kg and thus offers high payload reserves. Designed for a semitrailer height of 1,040 mm and a WAB height of 2,750 mm, the train meets the specifications exactly. This also applies to the length: the chassis measures 14,870 mm, the overall train with load is then 17,880 mm long and thus corresponds exactly to the type 1 long truck.

Both cornering and maneuvering behavior are optimally supported by the self-steering axle with "Reverse Control". "Reverse Control" makes the steering capability of the axle available even when reversing in shunting mode and makes it much easier to pick up the two WABs behind each other. As before, the two bridges are picked up via the container locks. This also applies to the lifting and lowering process. The only difference is that two WABs are picked up or lowered at the same time when the train is lifted.

An axle load detection system in the trailer, controlled via the EBS, reliably informs the driver in the cab about the load weight. As with all Fliegl trailers, the axles are calibrated and mounted by laser. This reduces wear and minimizes fuel costs. A low weight, user-friendly details, an extensive range of options and low life-cycle costs predestine this chassis equally for fleet use and for the entrepreneur who wants to use his tractor as often as possible.

Every third trip saved - With the Fliegl Swap Train

The Fliegl Swap Train transports three swap bodies of size C745 with only one driver! Minimizing the costs of transporting swap bodies is the result. Combined transport thus becomes more attractive for all transport companies. Bringing all demands under one roof - here Fliegl shows how it's done! With the Swap Runner, the 14,870 mm long chassis for transporting two WAB with only one load and the Flieg Dolly CLG, a new combination of the Long Truck Type 3 is created. The third WAB is picked up via a standard truck with BDF swap frame.

Clever, Light, Steered: With the patented steering dolly from Fliegl, the BDF motor truck and the 14,870 mm long container chassis, which specializes in swap bodies, are connected to form a towing unit. The CLG dolly is fully mechanical and requires no electronics or hydraulics for operation - true to the company motto: as simple as possible. This is also reflected in the weight: the dolly weighs only 1,300 kg.

Low dead weight, heavyweight advantages:

  • Up to 27,000 kg payload for the entire train with three WABs.
  • No electromechanical or hydraulic steering axle
  • The BO force circuit is fully complied with
  • No special spare parts
  • Problem-free reversing without steering lock
  • Due to the special geometry, the CLG dolly follows exactly the front axle of the towing vehicle

A rigid sub-coupled drawbar provides the connection to the truck. The drawbar and dolly are connected via another conventional jaw coupling, and a stable slewing ring prevents the trailer from rocking. With the extended drawbar and the pivot point shifted far to the rear, the dolly achieves a sensational turning circle. While other systems require an often failure-prone electric or hydraulic control, the CLG dolly transmits the movement of the engine truck directly and 1:1 to the trailer.

Driver shortages, congested roads, and continued growth in cargo volumes: The spiral continues upward. The BDF long-trailer combination presented by Fliegl offers an excellent approach to defusing the tension between economy and ecology cost-effectively and, above all, quickly.
