Short and sweet - compact swap body saddle for city and shuttle traffic

The destination is not always in well-developed logistics centres, sometimes the last mile goes through narrow streets to narrow backyards - a usual swap body trailer quickly reaches its limits here. Also for the short shuttle traffic between two warehouses, a smaller vehicle is often sufficient. With the compact 1-axle swap body semitrailer of the type SES 200, Fliegl once again responds to special customer requests. "We have been looking for a long time, but almost no one else has such a special semi-trailer on offer. Other vehicles are straight away too big for our purpose," says Norbert Voglreiter, Managing Director of the Multisped haulage company from Singen. "We have a tractor unit that drives longer tours at night, but is more usable during the day in local traffic.

is more usable. Then we deliver to smaller customers or drive swap bodies from one warehouse to another," says Voglreiter. In future, the new semi-trailer will transport individual swap bodies between the warehouses, which are only a few kilometres apart, in shuttle traffic up to ten times a day. In day-to-day business, the 8,130 mm long semi-trailer is considerably more usable than a large swap body train. In addition, swap bodies with a length of 7.45 and 7.82 metres as well as containers can be loaded - so the freight forwarder remains flexible.

As with all Fliegl swap body trailers, the guide rollers can be removed if necessary, the four locking devices sit on stable outriggers on a 20-foot base. Thanks to folding supports that can be extended to the front, the 1-axle trailer can also be unloaded under load. The 24-tonne two-speed support winch ensures a secure footing and rapid unhitching. The short trailer rolls on an SAF axle with 10 t axle load - enough for the mostly light swap bodies, confirms Norbert Voglreiter.

To ensure that the freight forwarder earns money with the trailer for many years, the frame of the short semi-trailer is hot-dip galvanised and passivated - an additional layer protects the galvanisation. Up to now, Multisped's fleet has consisted almost entirely of swap body trailers. With the special trailer, the freight forwarder is now testing a particularly short vehicle for the first time - and it is also the first from Fliegl. "If this works out, one or two short semi-trailers could be added," says Voglreiter.

INNOVATING FOR YOU: Sustainable production, sustainable vehicles

Fliegl already pays attention to sustainability in the production of trailers and semi-trailers for construction, forwarding and logistics. Thus, design, production and assembly are carried out at a central location; CO 2 producing intermediate plant transports over long distances are eliminated. For its modern trailer plant in Thuringia, Fliegl shows a positive energy balance - the electricity production is higher than the own consumption. Fliegl operates a combined heat and power plant and has installed large-scale photovoltaic systems; heating is provided by wood chips and waste wood.

The vehicles are painted in a highly efficient, resource-saving facility; energy-intensive baking processes are not necessary. In order to further reduce energy consumption, Fliegl has invested in pulse welding machines and fiber laser systems and completely converted the hall lighting to LED. The new high-bay warehouse feeds used energy back into the cycle. When purchasing vehicle components, Fliegl pays attention to the acceptance of full truck loads, so that deliveries are always made at optimum capacity.

Fliegl's vehicle concepts are based on a sustainable product philosophy. Lightweight construction has a high priority, so that Fliegl achieves top values for trailer weight - to the benefit of payload and CO 2 emissions. The Fliegl Quick Lock System generates an aerodynamic plus for curtainsider trailers. It does without protruding locking buckles, resulting in a completely flat curtain surface. Tipper trailers from Fliegl are built with an aerodynamic conical trough as standard and with Curved Chassis, which has a round, extremely flat frame neck - the tipper does not protrude above the tractor. Wind deflectors and the innovative membrane rear wall also reduce air resistance. Only Fliegl adjusts the track of all trailers individually and precisely by laser - for less rolling resistance and less tyre wear. Fliegl's two-axle Twin curtainsiders significantly reduce fuel consumption and toll costs compared to three-axle trailers.

Ecology and sustainability - Fliegl Trailer is serious. For its holistic approach to resource efficiency, Fliegl Trailer was awarded the German Sustainability Award 2016.
