Light chemical chassis. Pioneering lightweight construction for sensitive applications. 

Fliegl's Light chemical chassis provide a safe means of transporting containers with hazardous goods and substances. They are mainly used for logistics applications in the chemical industry. As the first vehicle of its kind, the Light chemical trailer from Fliegl entered the market with an unladen weight of just 2.7 tonnes. For maximum stability, it has a welded fine-grain steel construction with overlapping upper and lower chords. 

It comes with a stainless-steel collecting trough, drip trays, aluminium treads, a VA drain valve, optional splash-water-proof stainless-steel hose box (with drain and stainless-steel cover with rubber seal) and stainless-steel grounding lugs on the frame. Grounding reels with grounding conductor and terminals, fire extinguishers and fire extinguisher storage boxes are available as accessories. The driver has safe access via the extra-low, ergonomic entry point at the rear. 

Fliegl Gooseneck chassis have frames with side members which do not run parallel, but converge. This V shape results in a significant increase in payload and also has a positive effect on vehicle stability, since forces are bundled and transferred directly to the fifth-wheel plate. Aerodynamic advantages are a positive side-effect of the V-shaped frame construction. 

Vario chassis. Maximum variability, optimum vertical load. 

Fliegl Vario container chassis satisfy all requirements of container logistics. The core feature is the central telescoping system with Tele Control allowing the transport of all conventional containers from 20 to 45 feet. The axle locking brake is activated with the Tele Control, and the desired extension length is selected with a handle depending on the container size. When the desired length is reached, the Tele Control locks automatically at the specified position. No manual fixing is required. This system functions simply and securely, with no tilting. To accommodate containers without the gooseneck tunnel, the trailers are equipped with a height adjustment mechanism at the rear and folding centre supports. Containers of all sizes can be transported without problems with a Fliegl Vario chassis. The various trailers have different extensions: 

  • Fliegl Vario chassis V1: central telescoping system and rear extension 
  • Fliegl Vario chassis V2: central telescoping system, rear and front extension 

Fliegl's Vario V2 is designed with an extremely short rear overhang – offering the practical advantage of a 25% higher vertical load. On all variants, the supply unit is attached in a higher position and coupled to the position adapter on the front extension. This ensures added protection. The position adapter itself has been fitted with a vertical plate which protects it from deformation and at the same time makes loading the trailer even easier: The container finds its position quickly and without difficulty. 

The mechanical, hot-dip galvanised rear extension has a rubber-mounted guide shaft for greater grip and added spring effect. The rubber lining absorbs impacts with the container and extends the service life of the chassis. The solid pins in the reinforced, bolted and replaceable spring locks ensure secure locking of the extension, which engages automatically in the large fixing holes. To optimise working safety when the telescoping system is being retracted, the frame has been shortened around the telescoping tunnel. This creates more room for secure operation of the extension. 

Fliegl has moved the support stands towards the rear. This gives the towing vehicle optimum freedom of movement for manoeuvring – even at extreme angles. The support stands remain undamaged, even in the case of HGVs with a long wheelbase. The position lights on the outside of the frame are protected in a similar way. They are outside the movement radius of the towing vehicle. 

The heavy block on the rear has been extended towards the back in order to protect the vehicle's light unit and prevent damage when approaching loading ramps. The underride guard is made from galvanised stainless steel. When extended backwards, the element engages automatically at the desired position. 

Vario tipping chassis. The innovation for bulk materials. 

On Fliegl's tipping container chassis, the container locks are integrated at the front in the mounting block of the tilting ram, including a position adapter on both sides. At the rear, the locks and sturdy container stops are mounted on the continuous tipping shaft with return spring. The connection bar is mounted in a position which offers optimum protection, as does the mounting of the rear lights away from the ground and towards the inside. At the rear, there is a galvanised underride guard made from steel. 

The chassis is quickly and easily prepared for containers of different dimensions using the central telescoping and bolt locking system. The optional Tele Control facilitates telescoping by automatically braking the trailer slightly and relieving the load on the two rear axles. Depending on the specific version, the following loading options exist: 

  • 20/30 feet: retracted central telescoping system (20 feet), extended central telescoping system (30 feet) 
  • 30/40 feet: retracted central telescoping system (30 feet), extended central telescoping system (40 feet) 

The tipping process takes place hydraulically – via the PTO of the towing vehicle (standard) or with the aid of an electrohydraulic unit (option).  Gooseneck chassis. The all-rounder for everyday handling tasks

The innovation: Fliegl Vario V3. 

The declared aim of ongoing container chassis development at Fliegl was to achieve a significantly increased payload. The Vario chassis of type V3 was the result. The current unladen weight of the vehicles in the new series is 4700 kg. This gives freight forwarders and drivers the certainty that they always have the necessary weight reserves to be able to transport the sealed containers. In particular, the new container chassis is used for full container transport in the field of combined transport. It has a front, a centre and a rear extension, which is even galvanised. Fliegl's Vario V3 is designed with an extremely short rear overhang – offering the practical advantage of a 25% higher vertical load. 

A further highlight of the vehicle is its low frame neck height. It corresponds to the height of the container lock. In other words, the vehicle frame is as low as the container tunnel. As a result, the V3 can be driven with a lower coupling height and can easily meet the applicable height limit, which means that it can also be used for cross-border transport and within Switzerland. 

The support stands have been positioned on the outside, making coupling and uncoupling over pits much easier, while the swivel radius for trucks has also been optimised. The extensions of the V3 allow containers of the following sizes to be transported: 

  • 20 feet: retracted central telescoping system (20 feet) 
  • 30 feet: flush with rear, central telescoping system 1st step (30 feet) 
  • 2x 20 feet / 40 feet: extended rear extension, 1st step, with and without tunnel 
  • 45 feet: extended central telescoping system, 2nd step, extended rear extension, 2nd  Step with tunnel and overhang at the rear 
  • 45 feet: extended central telescoping system, 2nd step, extended front extension, 1st  step, extended rear extension, 2nd step with long tunnel and bevelled corners
