The volume miracle

Long, longer, X-tra Long! With an inside trough length of 14.9 metres, the SDS 390 X-tra Long walking-floor trailer offers an impressive transport volume of 101 cubic metres. Compared with conventional 90-cubic-metre troughs, that means an added 12 percent.

More volume means fewer trips and faster amortisation; with just two tours a day, this means you can save one trip a week – good for the environment and for your company. Pellets, wood chips, agricultural produce or other bulk goods; the three-axle walking-floor trailer on the basis of the SDS 390 not only offers plenty of space, but also a high payload of up to 27 tonnes.

Front and side walls of the aluminium box body consist of hollow profiles, welded all-round to a reinforcement profile at the top and to a special frame at the bottom. Like every walking-floor trailer from Fliegl, the SDS 390 X-tra Long is supplied from the factory with a seal-welded trough which prevents wet load seeping through. A drainage channel in the rear floor is standard equipment, as is the rain gutter on the rear of the vehicle which prevents rainwater flowing behind the door and into the load area.

Fliegl uses an extremely abrasion-resistant aluminium alloy for the 8-mm-thick profiles of the walking floor. For particularly abrasive materials, the floor is also available with a thickness of 10 millimetres. The amazing feature: The aluminium profiles are bolted in the centre of the trailer. After a few years, when the lower section is more worn than the upper, the profiles can simply be turned through 180 degrees, giving you several years more use. Mounting points for lashing lugs on the side of the floor allow safe transportation of other goods; the trade fair vehicle has 12 pairs of lashing lugs. The two-gear support winch in heavy-duty version with a lifting capacity of 24 tonnes makes it possible to park the trailer even when it is fully loaded.

Durability and failsafe performance are priorities at Fliegl. The stainless steel lock ensures easy opening and closing of the two-leaf door throughout the lifetime of the trailer, the patented I-Lock saves time, repair and spare parts costs. All moving parts on the trailer are lubricated with temperature-resistant copper paste, not with conventional grease. An abrasion and wear-resistant Hardox plate protects the area around the kingpin. Moreover, well-thought-out details make everyday work easier: A compressed-air connection on the rear of the vehicle, the side collision protection, locked in position with a spring-loaded lever and without splints which could be lost. A holder for shovel and broom are mounted on the bulkhead, the maintenance door on the front side of the trough allows easier access for cleaning. Two-sided access to the standing platform on the Code-XL-certified superstructure gives your trailer optimum flexibility, even when using different towing vehicles with access on different sides.

The trailer rolls with SAF disk brake axles, the tyre-pressure monitoring system measures pressure and temperature of each tyre and reports deviations to the driver. This prevents wear and damage. Axles precisely set in the Fliegl factory using lasers also ensure low tyre wear and low fuel consumption. Up to a speed of 20 km/h, the last axle can be relieved as a manoeuvring aid. The Trailer Infocenter displays data such as axle loads, mileage, diagnosis and system messages.

The comprehensive LED package comprises rear light clusters with dynamic indicators, side marking lights, position lights and tracking lights. Five LED working lights, two each on the side and at the rear and one on the standing platform, ensure that the work environment is perfectly illuminated at all times.

Despite its inside length of 14.9 metres, with an unladen weight of 7,600 kilos, the trailer is one of the lightest of its kind. The lightweight chassis is made from weight-optimised steel, 8 mm thick; Fliegl offers a ten-year warranty against perforation corrosion. And thanks to a special sandblasting process during production and a stove-enamel finish, the two-component paint will look good for many years to come.

Key points at a glance:

  • 101 m3 loading volume, 12 % more than conventional 90-m3 trailers
  • Depending on the load, you could save every tenth trip
  • 7,600 kg unladen weight, more than 27 t payload possible
  • Walking floor made from abrasion resistant aluminium alloy, floor profiles 8 or 10 millimetres thick, aluminium box body made from hollow profiles
  • Tyre pressure monitoring system, Trailer Infocenter, LED package, AAC-Basic relief axle as manoeuvring aid
  • Support winch in reinforced design for parking in loaded condition
