Gartner KG from Lambach in Austria has been a Fliegl customer for several years. Austria's largest transport company had ordered 30 container chassis so far, and now another large order followed: 120 new container chassis from Fliegl have recently been added to the Gartner fleet. "We ordered from Fliegl for the first time in 2019 and are convinced of the quality. It was very important to us that the chassis are galvanized and therefore particularly durable," says Marcus Schwarzbauer, authorized signatory at Gartner. Thanks to hot-dip galvanizing and additional passivation of the frame, nothing stands in the way of years of operation.
Thanks to the light chassis, the SDS 380 three-axle semitrailers in gooseneck design offer an excellent payload/empty weight ratio: with an empty weight of only about 4,000 kilograms, this results in a payload of 34,000 kilograms.
The gooseneck chassis can accommodate 45-foot containers, and the underride guard can be extended accordingly. The trailers roll with SAF disc brake axles including lightweight aluminum rims from Alcoa. Each axle is laser measured and precisely adjusted at the factory, which reduces tire wear and ensures lower fuel consumption. The 1st axle is also designed as an automatic lift axle, including forced lowering and starting aid: if the tractor has little traction, the 1st axle can also be lifted under load so that more load is applied to the drive axle; above a speed of 25 km/h, the axle lowers automatically.
Due to the slightly offset axle spacing, the total train weight may be 44 tons - important for combined transport. "We use the new chassis to transport 45-foot containers to our rail terminal in Lambach, and from there the containers go by train to other terminals in Greece and Romania," Schwarzbauer reports. The vehicles remain in Gartner's fleet for up to 15 years, covering about 150,000 kilometers per year. As the new chassis are delivered, older trailers are taken out of service.
