Low weight with large volume - Fliegl makes it possible

Oldenburg Kunststoff-Technik GmbH ordered five new vehicles with special equipment from Fliegl.

It is written extra thick on the order card: The vehicle must be especially light! And Fliegl delivers as ordered. Oldenburg Kunststoff-Technik GmbH from Chieming has been a Fliegl customer for four years, and 15 of the 17 vehicles in its fleet now come from Triptis. Why? "Back then, we talked to several manufacturers at a trade fair, but none of them responded to our needs. Fliegl listened and said, 'let's do it,'" says Managing Director Michael Oldenburg. The result is a single-axle curtainsider trailer with an interior height of 3 m, an interior length of 8,340 mm, an unladen weight of only 2640 kg, and a payload on the overall train of nearly 3 t.

As a result, the articulated train travels as an 11.99-ton truck in the most favorable toll class, which pays off especially in Switzerland: "We make about 15 trips a week to Switzerland, where tolls are very expensive. Now the entire train has only 3 axles, but we can still transport almost 3 tons," says Oldenburg.

The low weight is achieved in part by the lightweight frame, aluminum air tanks and the equally lightweight

loading floor. With a thickness of 24 mm, the latter is somewhat thinner than usual, which is not a problem for Oldenburg: "We transport packaging materials such as bubble or foam films, so the surface load is rather low." Occasionally with these vehicles also stretch film. Since the cardboard boxes are often placed directly on the floor without pallets, it must be absolutely dry. The floor is therefore specially sealed and grouted all around; a rubber seal is additionally attached to the slightly sloping outer frame with load-lock profile, and the tarpaulin provides splash water protection at the bottom.

The roof is designed as a sliding roof, the roof spar for the automotive industry offers an inner width between the spars of approx. 2,490 mm. Chieming is located in the foothills of the Alps, where the winter lasts a little longer than in the rest of the country. Thanks to the Anti-Ice system, rain and melt water run off the roof and do not freeze into ice slabs, which are difficult to remove. Other details also make work easier and safer: the helical flex lines requested by drivers do not drag on the ground, the rear work area is always well illuminated thanks to LED headlights, and the I-Lock door latch makes opening and closing easier.

In addition to the single-axle curtain trailers including truck body, Oldenburg expanded its fleet with three SZS 300 MegaRunner "Twin 180" X-tra Long long semitrailers. They are to be used to set up a scheduled service between the site in Bavaria and the new Oldenburg plant in Saxony-Anhalt. The new trailers will also serve as additional "storage space" in the yard and reduce the driver's waiting time: the plan is to operate two trailers per tractor in order to be able to change quickly. With an internal length of 15,030 mm, an unladen weight of only 5,980 and a permissible payload of 23,020 kg, the trailers meet Michael Oldenburg's requirements exactly. The long semitrailers also offer a sliding roof including a lifting roof and the robust Roof non-elastic - the roof spar hardly bends and makes loading and unloading easier. The anti-ice system ensures safe driving without ice plates on the roof. Bolted pallet stops on both sides, the heavy-blocker impact protection at the rear and 140 mm high crash blockers on the bulkhead protect the load, driver and vehicle. The 30 mm thick loading floor is sealed and grouted all around, and thanks to longitudinal beams it offers a high point load capacity; the forklift axle load may be 7,100 kilograms.

The new vehicles will cover around 90,000 kilometers per year at Oldenburg. There are also plans to purchase a Gigalin truck - from which manufacturer should be clear.
